All Ceramic Restorations
Because of their improved aesthetic appearance, chemical resistance, and biocompatibility, all-ceramic restorations are often preferred to porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) restorations. We are pleased to provide a wide range of materials to suit every patient. If what you require isn’t listed, please get in touch and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
IPS e.max gives you the opportunity to offer your patients outstanding aesthetic restorations, combined with high mechanical strength. The lithium disilicate glass-ceramic offers a natural look, excellent fit, form, and function, combined with the high strength of 400 MPa. The wide range of ingots that e.max offers allows us to choose the best solution for every individual case, from interior to posterior regions. Whether the stump is discoloured or not, you can still offer your patient an all-ceramic restoration.
Zirconia is a crystalline dioxide of zirconium that is the strongest ceramic for the dental market today. It is a polycrystalline material that does not contain an etchable glass phase.
Zirconia offers some significant physical properties that are advantageous for dental restorations besides its high strength. It has a similar colour to natural teeth, which reduces the need to opaque it or mask it, as would be done for a metal substructure. Zirconia also has good opacity. This may be an advantage when trying to block out underlying discoloured teeth or restorative materials. We generally offer two types of zirconia restoration:
- Full Zirconia crowns – normally used in the posterior region
- Layered zirconia crowns – zirconia core layered with ceramics, such as IPS e.max which is highly aesthetic and immensely strong, normally used in the interior region
Although all-ceramic restorations are often preferred to porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) restorations these days, we believe that in some cases traditional PFM restorations are still a valid choice. Ultimately, we will accommodate your patient’s choice.
